We moved the ball well through the backs, and Fin used his pace to break through and score Deepings’ first try in the corner.
Rushden & Higham soon found their feet and responded with a number of tries, mainly making good use of their big forward pack to punch holes through the middle.
Deepings started the second half a little slowly, allowing Rushden to add a few more tries. But one thing this team never does is give up. We pushed hard right until the end, producing some of our best passages of play as the game went on.
Josh and Arthur both broke the line to score a try each, with Oscar calmly converting both.
Final score: Rushden & Higham 33–19 Deepings
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The whole Deepings team showed a big improvement from last week, with more aggression, determination and some really good attacking rugby.
The boys should all be proud of their effort today. There is plenty for us to keep working on, but this is a team that will continue to grow in confidence and improve as the season goes on.
