Regarded as one of the toughest games of the season

Saturday 7th November 2015
Deeping Dinosaurs 5-12 Stamford Vets
Regarded as one of the toughest games of the season the Dino's were well up for this fixture. We had a high quality squad of 20 players with strength throughout including a massive pack. Sadly Stamford had no front row and the game had to be played with uncontested scrums.
There was nothing between the 2 sides for the first 20 minutes with Stamford failing to take full advantage of a strong wind and a lowering sun. They finally broke through on their left wing to score a try which they also converted. The strong wind and slippery conditions led to numerous handling errors and lots of scrums but the lack of contest meant the Dino's couldn't exploit their size advantage. The score remained 7-0 at half time but Stamford quickly scored through a 4-2 overlap again on their left and also slotted the extra points. The Dino's rallied and after repeated bouts of pressure in the Stamford half Andy France burst through to score from 20 yards out. The Dino's piled on the pressure and seemed certain to score two or three times but determined defending from the visitors kept them out.
No one was happy with a 12-5 loss but it was a good result against a team that put 65 points on the peterborough Juggers the previous week. Man of the match went to Andy France and donkey of the day went to Jason Whalley after his impression of the pope on a runway as he searched for his contact lens.
Court saw Charlie Bell summoned to atone for his fathers sins in the previous game when he turned out in a pair of peterborough socks. Unfortunately Charlie was 'unavailable' so his mum manned up, rolled the dice and took a spoonful of chilli anchovy paste that they both now owe her for!
It was a fantastic performance against quality opposition and showed what quality and depth we have in the Dinosaurs!
The next Dino's fixture is likely to be November 28th against St Ives but it won't be confirmed until midweek Den
