Men's Own crushed by Charity. Deepings RUFC v Northampton Mens Own

On the day that Deepings RUFC celebrated it's 30th Birthday the club and players were joined by ex-England and Lions player Peter Larter along with guests and Vice Presidents for a pre-match lunch.

Deepings came into this match on the back of their first league victory this season and spirits were high. The game was a tale of two halves, with Men’s Own having all the possession and territory for the first 40 minutes. They punished errors from Deepings and gained good yardage, however, the dogged defence from a week before had carried over into this game from Deepings and did exceptionally well to only concede 7 points in the first half. Scrum Half Lance Charity’s season of scoring continued as he got Deepings on the score sheet in quick reply.

The second half was all about the green, Deepings running in 3 tries. First came from a Charity interception with him running the length of the field, the second was a sniping dart from the base of the ruck after No 8. Nic Coupland and Hooker, Ali Shaw cleared out with force. The third try was more of a team effort. After a box kick, the ball flirted with the touch line, Second Row Oli Peacock picked up and with Wing Dave Trotter sniffing a chance of a try, he hunted the ball down off the received the pass but his legs wouldn't carry him the distance and he offloaded to Back row player Toby Cole to cruise in for the bonus point win.
