Man of the Match, Matty Newman.
Deepings entered this game on the back of two wins and were high in spirits. Daventry are a surprise team down in the lower regions of the league and would be looking to jump up with a win and this showed with them taking a 10-0 lead after 5 minutes.
Deepings were spurred into action, making breaks from all over the pitch, however, the precision to finish off and convert to tries was lacking and the ball kept going to the floor.
Some unusually quick thinking from scrum half, Lance Charity, saw him take a quick tap and go penalty and he darted over as Daventry were sleeping. It wasn't long before Charity was over again for a gifted try, with No 10 George Offer making a break and converting a 2 on 1 successfully he generously passed to Charity as they neared the line.
Wing, Ross McLean scored Deepings last try at the start of the second half and the game seemed to be for Deepings to lose, and sure enough, the self destruct button was hit. Daventry scored two tries and suddenly Deeping were 27 – 25 down with 15 minutes left.
Daventry had a player yellow carded and current action man Charity soon followed with a yellow of his own after some characterised stupidity. Deepings were battering the door down of the Daventry defence yet it stood firm and it wasn't until a fed scrum on the last play of the game from Daventry that Deepings were able to take their chance. The resultant quick tap meant Deepings won a penalty and up stepped Man of the Match, Matthew Newman, who slotted the tricky kick under immense pressure. Deepings won on the last kick and it was a great start to the nights events!
