On the road for the last time this season away to Northampton Casuals. For the first ten minutes of the game neither side gave an inch and the ball hardly made it out of the mid-field. Eventually Deepings Full Back Chris Sorlie was able to create space in the Casuals defence and was able to offload in the tackle to wing Vernon Horne to score the first of his hat-trick of try’s.
Deepings second try came courtesy of a poor timed Casuals pass intercepted by Centre, Steven Corrigan and passed Michael Wainwright to score and for Nick Dobie to convert.
Shortly before half-time with Deepings on the offensive after a missed penalty goal attempt from Casuals, Dobie placed a perfectly weighted cross-field kick into the Casuals 22 with the defence hot on his heels Vernon Horne chased it down and gathered the ball on the bounce to score his second try.
The second half opened with Dobie adding another three points with a penalty goal. With both teams tiring in the hot sun, mistakes were plentiful and a spilled Casuals ball which Vernon Horne scoped and sped off down the wing this time though to be denied and held up for the try. Casuals won the resulting five meter scum but with some confusion they opted to pass the ball down the line rather the kick it clear, Vernon Horne tackled the Casuals man with ball who was driven back over the try line, Horne was able to rip the ball in the tackle and scored his third try.
Deepings replacement flanker, Charlie Knowles, provided the fifth and final try emerging from a ruck as the Casuals were defending their line he drove through the pile of bodies to score his first try of the season!
The final ten minutes of the game saw Deepings unravel somewhat, with Casuals battling back strong and hard and putting in a great show to get three trys as Deepings struggled to defend.
Deepings have their final game of the season at home on Saturday the 16th April, kick off is at 15:00pm
