Deeping IXV got their season off to a perfect start with a 08-19 win across at Northampton Mens Own on Saturday.
Deepings set their intentions out early with some dominant forward play which eventually set up scrum half, Steven Corrigan, for the only Green Machine try of the match. Picking up from the back of a ruck 15 yards off the try line, Steven stepped two defenders and touched the ball down despite a last ditch tackle form the Mens Own full back on the try line.
Deepings other points came in the form of four penalties and a successful conversion kick from the steady boot of Nick Dobie.
Another performance of note was that of Michael Harrison who caused problems for the opposition at the breakdown all through the game. Steven Corrigan was awarded Man of the Match for his outstanding debut at scrum half, narrowly beating wing, Brian Ward, who also stood out for his performance.
Deepings will hope to make it two from two this Saturday, 18th Sept, when they welcome visitors Bedford Queens to Linchfield Road, kick off is at 15:00pm. Details and match stats are all on the DRUFC website, www.deepingsrufc.co.uk
