This was set to be a highlight of the season at Spalding Road, with Deepings RUFC ready to host the Lincolnshire Police in a highly anticipated clash. Unfortunately, the fixture had be postponed due to the unavailability of a match referee.

This marks the third time this season that we have had a fixture affected by the ongoing shortage of grassroots rugby referees. While the teams were eager to play and the clubhouse was prepared for a fantastic day of rugby, including the screening of the England v Wales Six Nations match, the game simply cannot go ahead without an official. We would like to thank supporters and the Lincolnshire Police team for their understanding.

To prevent this from happening again and to ensure our players get the game time they deserve, we are looking to recruit "club" referees. If you love the game and want to stay involved from the thick of the action, we would love to hear from you. Providing cover for these circumstances is vital for the future of grassroots rugby in our community. No previous officiating experience is required to start—just a passion for the sport and a desire to help the club.

While the anticipated clash between Deepings and Lincolnshire Police was postponed, the spirit of the "Rugby Family" was on full display at Spalding Road, we were proud to be able to step in and host the East Midlands Colts semi-final between Huntingdon Stags and Peterborough. With both their home pitches unplayable due to wet weather, Deepings stepped in to provide a venue for this crucial youth match.

The clubhouse was a "full house" of England and Welsh supporters gathered to witness a dominant England victory. Joining in with the Twickenham supporters in full voice, England’s emphatic 48-7 win provided the perfect backdrop for a fantastic afternoon in the bar.

And the fun continued long after the final whistle with our Virtual Race Night. Members enjoyed a card of eight races on the big screen, complete with commentary and photo finishes, raising funds for the senior club team while enjoying a high-energy evening of community spirit.
