It was a high-scoring, end-to-end affair at Spalding Road this past Saturday as Deepings played host to a clinical Thorney side. Despite a spirited performance and a late surge from the home team, Thorney managed to edge out the contest 41-33 in a match that kept the spectators on their toes until the final whistle.
Deepings showed great character throughout the match, crossing the whitewash four times. The try-scorers included:
Ciaran Thompson
Paul Robinson
Bailey Johnson
Gary Ward
The kicking game was shared between the posts, with Ciaran Thompson successfully slotting two conversions and Steve Capper adding a third to keep Deepings within striking distance for much of the afternoon.
Ultimately, Thorney’s ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities proved to be the difference. While Deepings secured a respectable point tally and showed flashes of brilliance in the offensive line, the visitors’ defensive resilience in the closing stages secured them the victory.
Final Score: Deepings 33 – 41 Thorney
