Deepings progress in the Midlands Junior Vase with a first round win over Gainsborough.

The Green Machine got back to winning ways with a one-sided romp over Midlands Five East (North) opponents Gainsborough 75-0 at Linchfield Road where the crowd were treated to ten tries, nine of them converted.

Youngsters took their opportunity to shine for Deepings under Gareth Silverwood’s captaincy after Gainsborough had a man sent off for punching inside 20 minutes.

But it was a try from winger Nathan Pound in his first game back after ten months out through injury that really lifted the Deepings faithful as their side bounced back from the previous weekend’s defeat to Thorney in the Nene Valley derby.

Deepings skipper Guy Cunningham, who coached the side in the absence of Tim Edwards, said: “It was just one of those days when we played some really good rugby and where we really exploited Gainsborough because they had a player less.”
