As the mist settles on the pitches and the floodlights are dimmed for the Christmas holiday, there is a wonderful sense of warmth around the club. It has been a whirlwind few days of festive cheer, and we want to take a moment to look back on the celebrations and look forward to how we’re seeing out the year together.
Quiz Brains and Lucky Winners
The 2025 festivities kicked off in style on Friday, December 19th, with the the Great Christmas Quiz. The clubhouse was filled with teams battling through rounds of trivia, all desperate to claim the title of "2025 Christmas Quiz Champions". The competition was as fierce as a local derby, but played with the fantastic spirit we’ve come to expect from our rugby family. Congratulations to our winners, your trivia knowledge is officially legendary!
The excitement continued into Sunday for the Christmas Draw. It was a brilliant afternoon of community spirit, with the air filled with anticipation as winning tickets were pulled for a mountain of prizes. If you weren’t able to join us for a drink during the draw, don’t worry—all winners who weren't present have now been contacted to arrange collection. It was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and while the prizes have all been claimed, the countdown to the 2026 draw starts now—it’s only a year away!
Clear Out Your Sock Drawers!
A quick but important housekeeping note for all our members: please check the back of your sock drawers, your old kit bags, and your wallets for any stray bar tokens. New Year’s Eve will be the final opportunity for us to accept these at the bar. Make sure you bring them down and trade them in for a festive beverage before they become vintage souvenirs!
Christmas Eve Afternoon: Magic for the Family
Whether you are looking to escape the "big shop" chaos or simply need to burn off some of the children’s pre-Christmas energy, the club is the place to be on Christmas Eve. We will be opening our doors from 13:00, offering a sanctuary for parents and plenty of entertainment for the younger ones.
We’ll have classic Christmas films playing on the TV to keep the little ones occupied for an hour or two. Most excitingly, we have word from the North Pole that Father Christmas himself has carved out some time in his busy schedule to visit the club. He’ll be roaming the clubhouse during the afternoon until his reindeer finally drag him away to start the big delivery run. To round off the afternoon and into the evening, we’ll be serving complimentary mulled wine and mince pies at the bar until we close at 21:00.
Come down, share a drink, and make it a #2025ClubChristmas to remember.
The New Year’s Eve "Not A Party"
Following Christmas Eve, the club will take a short break to recharge before our final event of the year. This year, we are sticking to our popular "Not A Party" format for New Year’s Eve. We know that sometimes you just want a comfortable place to see in the New Year without the fuss of expensive tickets or loud discos.
The bar will be open, and the rest of the evening is entirely in your hands. There’s no dress code, no formal playlist, and no tickets required. We encourage you to bring your own festive food or even order a takeaway to be delivered straight to the club. It’s a night for you, your family, and your friends to relax and enjoy each other's company as we count down the final moments of 2025 and welcome 2026 together.
Reflecting on 2025: A Year of Deeping Pride
As we look back on 2025, it has been a year defined by growth, grit, and rugby. From the determined performances of our senior squads to the muddy, smiling faces of our burgeoning mini and junior sections, the club has proved it's strength and it's fight. We’ve seen record turnouts at our community events and felt the unwavering support of our volunteers who keep the heart of Deepings RUFC beating.
To all our members, sponsors, supporters, and our wider rugby family across the globe: thank you for being part of our journey this year. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a "scrum-ptious" New Year. Let’s make sure we hook(er) onto every opportunity in 2026 and keep driving forward as one club.
