Dragons shine at Leicester Tigers! A proud day of stripes, spirit, and a huge U15s Big Boot Challenge victory for Deepings RUFC

The green, black, and gold stripes of Deepings RUFC were out in full force at the Friday evening Premiership clash between Leicester Tigers and Gloucester, as the club organised a special coach trip to Mattioli Woods Welford Road stadium.

It was a landmark day for our young "Dragons," who were given the prestigious privilege of forming the Guard of Honour. Standing pitchside as the professional giants took to the field, our players represented the club with immense pride, vibrant energy, and impeccable behaviour.

The Deepings contingent didn't just stand out because of their iconic "Northampton Saints" colours; they were heard throughout the stadium. Their passionate cheering and sporting conduct drew praise, proving that the Dragons are a class act both on and off the pitch.

The excitement didn't end with the pre-match ceremonies. During the half-time interval, our U15s squad stepped onto the hallowed turf to compete in the "Big Boot Challenge." Under the stadium lights and in front of thousands of fans, the boys showed nerves of steel. Competing against two other local teams, the U15s dominated the high-ball contest, securing the title by a clear margin of two catches.

For those unfamiliar with the Big Boot Challenge, it is one of the most daunting tests of composure at Mattioli Woods Welford Road. During the half-time interval, teams are challenged to catch high balls fired deep into the night sky by a ball-launcher (the ‘Big Boot’). Under the intense glare of the stadium lights and in front of a crowd of thousands, the swirling winds make every catch a massive achievement. For our U15s to clinch the title by two clear catches is a testament to their skill and steady nerves on the big stage!

"It was a fantastic moment for the club," said one of the coaches. "Seeing the kids' faces during the Guard of Honour was special, but watching the U15s take the trophy at half-time was the icing on the cake."

A huge thank you to everyone who organised the trip and to the players who made us so proud. It was a night to remember for the Deepings family!

Make sure you keep an eye on the club website for details of future trips.
