The Deepings Raft Race Committee has awarded a 2025 Community Fund grant to Deepings Rugby Club to support essential external repairs and renovations to the clubhouse veranda — a vital space for members, supporters, and the wider community.
The grant was presented at the Raft Race Committee’s annual donation evening in December, where £4,000 was distributed across 13 local groups. The event, held at Deepings Rugby Club, celebrated the spirit of giving and recognised the efforts of organisations that enrich life across the Deepings.
Club representatives expressed their gratitude for the funding, which will help restore the veranda to a safe, welcoming standard. The space is used year-round for match-day gatherings, youth training sessions, and community events — making the renovation a meaningful investment in local sport and social connection.
“We’re incredibly thankful to the Raft Race Committee for their support,” said a club spokesperson. “The veranda is more than just a structure — it’s where friendships are made, teams are cheered on, and the community comes together. This grant helps us preserve that.”
The Deepings Rugby Club was one of 13 recipients of the 2025 Community Fund, which supports small-scale projects that benefit residents of all ages. Other beneficiaries included Deepings Youth Group, Deep in Kindness, Age Concern, and several local schools and sports clubs.
Kevin Barber, Chairman of the Raft Race Committee, said:
“The Deepings Raft Race exists to bring the community together, and being able to give back through these donations is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”
The next Deepings Raft Race will take place on Sunday, 2 August 2026, promising another day of fun, fundraising, and community spirit.
