After Deeping got over the surprise of Lions arriving as Peterborough, apparently the whole of Lions U14s resigned on mass and joined the team from 2nd Drove, it was down to business.
Deeping nearly scored direct from the kick off when Charlie Woollard was bundled into touch just short of the line. Peterboroughs big pack then took control and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Deeping hit back with a fine team move that saw Josh Lester score but Peterborough hit back to lead 5-12 at the break.
Deeping scored first in the second half, Josh Lester ripping the ball free in the tackle to run 40 metres to score. Peterborough the increased their lead to lead 10-17.
As the game entered the final quarter Peterborough pack tired and with gaps opening up Angus Fox score a converted try. Another fine Deeping effort then saw Beck McCarthy race clear to score to put Deeping in the lead.
Deeping survived a late Peterborough assault to win 22-17 to the delight of the home supporters. Congratulations go to Austin Crowson for his Man of the Match performance at hooker.
