To celebrate what has been a hugely successful season we have put in place the following arrangements to close the season:

Sunday 17th April - We will be holding a Fun training session at Deepings between 10.30am and midday. We plan to play a number of fun games, including rugby rounders, relay races, rugby basketball, and a much requested lads vs parents game of touch rugby. There will be an opportunity for younger brothers / sisters to get involved in the games, and the 'touch match' is 100% reliant on parents (both mums and dads) turning up with trainers on. The focus will be on fun, and whole family celebration of the season.

Thursday 5th May - Team presentations, this year taking place at Bourne (at the club) with a 6.45pm arrival for the players vote, and 7pm start to the presentations. This is a shirt and club / school tie event, with a whole team photo at the end. Kevin will be pulling together some of the best shots of the season, and we have awards for Player of the Year, Forward & Backs Player of the Year, Most Improved Performance / Fitness, Most Improved Forward & Back, Top Scorer, New Player of the Year, and Player with most potential for next season. Plus of course the Players Player of the Year - who do you most want on the field with you - maybe not your top scorer, but the person setting up the tries, making the killer tackles etc.

Friday 13th May - The whole squad has been invited to the Bourne Junior section Celebration Dinner. This is a first for the Bourne club, to celebrate success across the whole junior team section, but also to introduce players to the formal side of rugby. This again is a shirt and tie event with a sit down two course meal. This is what the seniors do, but we plan to stay sober!!!! We may throw in a couple more awards for Best Tackle, Best Try, Best Support Player etc. There will be a cost to this event, though I don't have that detail at present.

Then (date to be confirmed / venue to be confirmed) we think its time for another parents night out. This season would not have been a success without your efforts, so lets join in with the celebrations. Suggestions most welcome.

As already notified by text, we are suspending Thursday training for the next three weeks, but will have something in place following the presentation evening through to the school summer holidays - though mainly focussed on fitness. Sunday training stops after this weekend, aside from any pre season events yet to be confirmed. We are still planning our build up to next season, including setting up some taster sessions for a number of new players we believe are waiting in the wings.

Also during the summer the two clubs will be supporting any parents wishing to gain their coaching qualification and helping manage the ever increasing team numbers. We have had four parents interested so far, but will be happy to talk to anyone else who is keen. Its warmer running around coaching than standing on the side in those winter months!!! With both Thursday and Sunday to cover the more the merrier (or easier it becomes), and will allow a more formalised arrangement of training for those not playing on any given week - we are already planning more games to meet the demand of numbers, but everyone still has to train between matches to continue with improvements.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone involved with the squad, players, parents, 'taxi drivers', kitchen helpers, and a particular mention to Melvyn Ashton for another year of fantastic fixtures and Karl Cheek for his ever present first aid support.

The Barbarians continue into 2011/12, with a new set of challenges, but a great base to build from.

Nick
