The Fenland Barbarians end of season awards were presented on Thursday night, with a large contingent of players and parents congregated to celebrate an outstanding year.

Having started the season with 22 players, throughout the season 41 individuals played in at least one match. 14 individuals joining the squad were totally new to rugby this year, and 5 players returned to the game or joined from other places. At the end of the season 35 players remained involved with the squad, with a couple more on the edges given football commitments.

This season 22 players contributed to a remarkable 531 points scored. 12 players scored 15 points or more: with Joe Warner, Jack Lagdon, Adam O'Neill, and Ollie Sherwin scoring 15; Theo Edwards scoring 19; Patryk Danielewski scoring 20; Matt Hudson scoring 25; Josh Flegg scoring 30; Sam Cheek scoring 35; Dylan Jones scoring 45; and Dan Whadcock topping the ton at 110 just behind Harley Bycraft at 130 points. As commented on by more than one opposition coach, this is not a squad built around two or three EPDG or SoR players, but one with the capacity to attack from any position.

Individual awards were given as follows:

Player of the Year: Jack Lagdon
Player's Player of the year: Dan Whadcock
Pack Player of the year: Robert Martin
Backs Player of the Year: Ollie Sherwin
Fitness & Performance Award: Sam Cheek
Most Improved Forward: Joe Warner
Most Improved Back: Matt Hudson
New Player of the Year: Dan Gammons
Potential for the Future: Clyde Hurst
Top Points Scorer: Harley Bycraft

The squad also celebrated the involvement of four U13 players choosing to 'Play Up' into the U14's age group, with two having received team awards (Sam Cheek and Harley Bycraft) and with both Will Legge and Tom Oliver recognised for their performance at this higher level of the game.

Team Captain, Josh Flegg, gave a vote of thanks from the team to all of the parents, coaches and helpers.

Celebration 'stage two' takes place on Friday 13th May with the squad joining together for a section meal.

Well done to everyone who received awards, and to those whose efforts were noted, but not recognised with a trophy this year.

Nick, Dave and Kevin.
