Deeping turned out a small squad of 16 against some 25 from Peterborough. The first 20 minutes were very even with both sides making forays into the others territory and the Dinosaurs number 10 Nick Dobie making good use of his boot to gain ground.
Then Peterborough started to get some quick ball to their wings and proved simply too quick for the Dinosaurs. Peterborough exploited their youth and pace to make a number of clean breaks down the wings and put several tries on the dinosaurs by half time. The Dinosaurs were then somewhat discouraged to see Peterborough change their entire backline and put out and even quicker group of players. Despite Peterborough's dominance out wide it was an excellent contest in the middle of the pitch with Deeping having slightly the better of the scrums. In a game that ended up many points to nil Peterborough only managed one try through the forwards and it was a far more even game than the score would suggest.
Man of the match for the dinosaurs was Matt Hawkes with his aggression and power breaking the Peterborough line again and again. Everyone playing in green could have a shout for man of the match with fantastic tackling and an absolute determination not to give up until the final whistle. The game was played in a great spirit and was thoroughly enjoyable. Perhaps next time the Dinosaurs Captain could look for some older opposition!
