The DRUFC SAXONS

No longer the II XV or the development side, but a team in it’s own right, under the experience and management of Steve Mclean the Saxons will build through this season, 2010/11, to be able to enter the league next year.
The team will mirror the I XV in every way, providing a good solid player base to progress the club forward in the coming seasons.
Why the Saxons? No it’s not a rip-off of the England team! We wanted something associated with The Deepings so after much research we came across this gem of information;
“It was the Saxons to whom we owe the name Deeping. The suffix -ing or -inghes, was generally added by Saxons to a person's name and means - the land, meadows or place of that person. In the case of Deeping, the name probably derived from the nature of the land itself. Some suggest the name is a derivation of "deep in fen" whilst others maintain that in Saxon times the word meant deep (Old English diope) or low lying lands (-ings). “
So the Saxons was formed to defend the Deepings, give them your support where you can.
If it's a tackle from a Saxons hand that frightens you,
stay home.
